Case users, students, faculty, and staff are advised to update their Symantec AntiVirus clients due to a known vulnerability that is now being exploited by the W32.Spybot.ACYR.
The Case Software Center has the most updated version (10.1.5.5000) available for download by users with a valid Case network ID.
An ITS News item addresses the update to this software.
A number of educational institutions were affected, which seemed to be the target of the perpetrators of this botnet infection, according to an article in SecurityFocus.
This appears to be a growing trend of exploits aimed at applications with known vulnerabilities, also known as targeted attacks.
