Scheduled Maintenance: Deploying New SSO Server in Crawford Computer Room

Posted by postprob on May 21, 2008 at 09:16 AM

Problem: Deploying New SSO Server in Crawford Computer Room
Cause: Preparation for KSL Shutdown
Affects: Users of Single Sign On
Started: 05/29/2008 05:00 AM
Resolved: 05/29/2008 06:00 AM

Notes:

[5/28/2008 3:00 PM] - This shutdown has been canceled. We will temporarily deploy the new server during the KSL power shutdown and restore the older server after KSL power is restored. Within the next few weeks we will do a more formal rollout of the new server with a test deployment so our clients of the service outside ITS can test against the new server in a less hurried fashion.

[5/22/08 4:30 PM] - We were forced to push this off by 2 days because of some problems with getting the portal to authenticate properly with the new version of CAS.

This is a continuation of the work started on 5/20. This time we will be making name server changes that will switch Single Sign On services from the server currently in KSL computer room to a server in Crawford Hall computer room. The change is the final preparation that will be necessary to keep SSO services available during the KSL power shutdown.

We are switching to a newer more aggressively maintained server and there may be some minor cosmetic changes to the sign on page. Overall, the functionality of the service should not change, nor should the interface to it.
