Emergency Maintenance: Sympa List Server being Rebooted

Posted by postprob on October 23, 2009 at 10:46 AM

Problem: Sympa List Server being Rebooted
Cause: postfix & other system processes are misbehaving (/var filled up)
Affects: Mailing lists and Mail Aliases
Started: 10/23/2009 10:45 AM
Resolved: 10/23/2009 12:00 PM

Notes:

UPDATE: The system took longer than expected to shutdown and now it is doing a complete file system check. The file system is very large and this could take a long time. (normally it does not do a complete FS check on reboot)

Something caused the system mail processes to get confused and the mail spool overflowed causing other system problems. We are rebooting the server to get things back to a sane state.

Downtime should only be a few minutes. No mail will be lost (unless it was already lost when the mail spool overflowed)
