The Honor Killing of Du'a Khalil Aswad

dua_khalil_aswad.jpgIt sickens me that this medieval savagery continutes to take place. While our U.S. soldiers try to keep the peace in Baghdad and in other major cities, we depend on the Kurdistan government in northern Iraq to keep the peace and maintain a fledging democracy and to suppress the use of "honor killings."

This act of barbism was committed by members of the Yazidi religion, a pre-Islamic, pre-Christian pagan faith.

Du'a Khalil Aswad was a 17-year-old girl who fell in love with a Sunni Muslim boy. Yes, she fell in love with a person who was not of her religion. Her family was shamed by this. A sentence of death was passed on her after she did not return home one night.

Miss Aswad took shelter in the house of a Yezidi tribal leader in Bashika, a predominantly Kurdish town near the northern capital of Mosul. A large crowd watched as eight or nine men stormed the house and dragged her into the street.

For 30 minutes, she was beaten, kicked, and stoned at the hands of a lynch mob. Among these men were her uncle, brother, and cousin.

She was killed when a large and heavy cinderblock was passed through the crowd, and one man forcefully dropped it on her head.

The crowd of men cheered. As her lifeless body lay there on the ground, observers and participants took photos and video shots as some sort of memento.

A local security force witnessed the incident but did nothing to stop it.

Her boyfriend is now in hiding fearing for his life.

It is known that honor killings have taken place, but this incident was so publicised. The sick bastards decide to take pictures and videos of her battered body and posted them on the internet.

Of course, the Yazidis are now asking the Iraqi government for protection because of all the retailiation.

"It is unacceptable because Yazidis, in addition to being a minority in Iraq, have been discriminated against for their beliefs and are forced to isolate themselves to stay alive," Hebert Yegorova, a spokesman for Yazidi Peace Association, said.

"Whatever we worship doesn't affect the normal lives of Iraqis and as we respect their beliefs, we have to have ours respected too," Yegorova said. "We don't worship the devil but they are confusing terminologies and this is unfair."

Honor killings are barbaric. Stonings are abhorrent. We will respect your beliefs, but we will not condone cold blooded murder. The men shown on the photos and video killing this girl ought to be hunted down.

The Daily Mail has photos of the killing. Viewer discretion is advised. Another link.

Amnesty International condemned the killing as abhorrent.

I want to write directly to the religeous head of the Yazidi people. I want to know exactly what kind of people can take a young beautiful girl in to the street and stone her to death. What kind of people are they? What about her mother and father her own family allowing this to happen. I have always felt concerned for the Kurds because of how they have been treated, by Saddam and also by the Turks. Now, frankly, I don't care what happens to them. They can all rot in hell as far as I'm concerned. They are sick digusting people and they should be left to live in the middle ages if that's what they want.
My policy now, for any micro finance is to only help women, especially if they want to escape the madness they are living in.
These Muslim religeous groups and the Yazidis are all crazy and they do not deserve help or democracy or anything from us. George Bush should not waste another dollar on them.

Today-12/july-I watched this vidio.its too late for saying something now,but Iam so sad and so sorry for Dua.I dont know what shold i say just ask the Kurdistan government to prevent such wildly actions.I-AS A MASLIM-am sure that they are not real maslim.they are wild peopel that do every action becaus of their ignorance.I again say:Iam so so sorry for dear DUA.

Yazid is not an islamic religion. It is not a religion sent by God like This for jews, chrisitans and mulsims which were sent consequintly in different times to us. this is a "hand made religion" and is beleived by only a comminity of 50,000 to 200,000 people.

I can't say more than what already said about this awful video and this poor little lady but what i would like to comment about is the police located there. I just wonder are they the result of the training and efforts that Mr. Bush and his gang are doing for a FREE IRAQ?
What a poor Iraq and what a poor girl.

Honor killings should not be tolerated at all and they need to be taken seriously. People who do these barbaric acts they also should be held accountable including members of their families and friends whoever is masterminding, which it does not really matter because if people get involved without realizing that they are commiting serious crimes and should be prosecuted also. There is no justification of the horrific crime that is commited and it should be stopped and haver serever harsher laws on it.

yezidi people are not like regular kurdish people they are not muslims and they belive in the devil shytan they worship the devil...........they r way different then other kurdish poeple they are soo stricted and i think this is soo wrong i just creyd so much for this girl she will go to havean inshAllah

I feel- no wait I know that she did nothing rong her 'crime' was to love a muslim boy there is nothing rong with that the only thing rong is that she was punished for love!" but I still cant beleve those BASTARDS would acctually do that! And to sit there and watch Dua skream in pain and to see her being beten in such a horrific way by family members- or cowards with out a heart- and know you cant help her is HORRIBLE!!!

Please bear in mind that the Yazidi are widely reported in occult writings as followers of satan so is it really a surprise
