Absolut Vodka - Controversial Ad?

This is probably the first time I have seen Absolut Vodka did more than shaping photos with the vodka bottle figure.
Another interesting thing note is that this ad appeared in Mexico and on Mexican magazines.
Hmmm.
Update 4/4:
Looks like someone did a photoshop change to the ad.

Anyone else wants to offer any new ones?

Why people are getting upset over this? Vodka ads are not meant to be taken seriously anyways... or perhaps I should drink Mikes Hard Lemonade and check my garage for a Ferrari, then bedroom for a hottie... and if they are not there, cry and moan about it on the internet. Let's move on people, there are more important things to waste breath (bandwidth) on.

Its ignorance like that that soooo many illegal immigrants have been able to reside in the US. It is a huge problem and we are paying for it- yes usually a beer ad is just a beer ad going on fantasy that if you drink it a hottie will come and not care that you are overweight and bald...in this case it is hitting on Mexican fantasy and we need to make sure it does not become reality. Wake up people and secure our borders!

Or...it's time to give the antiquated business model of nationhood a rest and rethink foreign policy. Us and them is not a good way of managing interpersonal relations, and it never was. Get your brains back in your head and think seriously about civil liberty, social contract, and democracy...maybe you'll find some of your assumptions to be unfounded. Also, for what it's worth, I think you're interpreting this ad incorrectly. It's playing on the name "absolut" by depicting a much outdated map of Mexico as a juxtaposition. Essentially it's a carpe diem argument for enjoying their vodka, I don't think the intent was to "lay claim" to parts of the US.

Absolut Vodka irks me. The United States gives so much time, treasure and American lives to many places in the world and Asolut slams the United States with the ad. We want say anyting about WWII and who sympahized with the Nazi's and still hides billons of dollars unaccounted money from that corrupt regime. Another example of the "phoney" European's. That is the last bottle or product I buy from absolut.

How is this ad slamming the United States? Also, if you have any sources of information backing your allegations that you can link here, could you do that so others can read it? I'm not sure where you got the notion that the Swedish are ""phoney" European's [sic]" considering its geographical situation and the heritage of the majority of its population.

Why do we get so upset. Was not this country established when we, the anglo saxtons, immigrated to this country so many of hundreds of years ago, and have continued to do so, for many an immigrant. Was it not Eliis Island that we opened for immigration? Did not at least some of our relatives from long ago come to this country from their homeland in hopes of making a better life for their families and themselves? Compassion and understanding go a looong way. Reach back into your history, and remember the kindness this country showed us when we first came here.

WE (the realists), get so upset because there is a social, politcal, and financial strain placed on our country when we try and have compassion for roughly 1.5 million immigrants per year that require free health care, schooling, and cause violence (terrorism). Whos gonna pay to combat all those things? You? This country? To suggest WE pay is a socialist notion. I dont work 10 hours a day, close big deals, and am number one in sales at my comppany so my taxes can pay for some illegal to break their arm doing an illegal job and sue an American business. And I dont pay taxes so some immigrant can have six children in an American hospital and never have to pay the bill. Not all of the immigrants are "hard-working" trying to live the American Dream and have legitimate tax-payinig jobs. I can go on for hours, but to do so would waste more of my time when i could be working to pay for more illegals to live comfortably in our country. And you wont ever change. You want a free world where everyone is treated the same, where hard work means nothing. You want socialism. So maybe you should go away to a tiny place where thats still considered "cool" Cuz it aint here, not as long as I'm fighting the Capitalist fight for the REAL American Dream. Peace.

I'm not sure I understand the controversy surrounding this whole ad. Just seems silly to me.

What the problem is ? it would be an absoult world indeed , Mexico is better fun ... nice girls ,nice people, good beverages rather than Ronald McDonald , coca cola , warfare , and black people shooting each other on the streets of the great America and later on to get rich and post an example as ''Rap artists''
So leave the Absolut ads to speak for them selfs and stick to drinking coca cola eating you burgers and driving you dodge pickup trucks ...
