MGMT250 Class

The overall class has been a very enjoyable one. I did not have high hopes for the class to begin with, but I believe that I have learned a great deal. The class has taught me to look at my values. These have taught me what I want out of life when it pertains to achievement, religion, and marriage. I have been forced to evaluate my dreams when it pertains to the high hopes that very few people achieve like climbing Mount Everest. The class has also made me look at my goals of becoming a CMO (Chief Marketing Officer) for a well, respected organization. With all of these combined, I can accurately assess what I want out of my life overall. I did not think that a simple management course could show me what I wanted in the overall, broad perspective, but this class certainly has.

Dreams, Goals, and Action Planning

The Dreams excercise in class greatly interested me. The exercise made us state our dreams and then make certain ones into goals. Everyone has many dreams throughout life such as becoming a doctor, an astronaut, or a trophy wife. These dreams can sometimes be straight-up outrageous, but when it comes down to what someone personally want for their life is when one has to determine whether or not they want these things as dreams or goals. I decided that for changing some dreams into goals, I wanted my dream to graduate college to be a goal. Graudating college is a big ordeal for a lot of people. Very few people actually accomplish such an achievement, and to do so is a very respectable accomplishment. Graduating from Case Western Reserve University is a very admirable accomplishment in many eyes, and I not only hope to do so, but I hope to do it on time. I have run in to many problems along the way, but I believe in the past semester that I have overcome many of these obstacles in hopes of accomplishing this goal in my time range.

MGMT250 Career Center Update

My Management 250 class has really gotten me involved directly with the Career Center. I have always known that the Career Center was an available resource, but I unfortunately have never used it to its true potential. Over the past semester, with the help of my Marketing class, the Career Center has become a big part of my college life. I have developed a good relationship with both Amy and Kristen. They have constantly emailed me with information on local career fairs with marketing/advertising internship possibilites as well as possible internships in the area. They both have also sat down with me personally to look over my resume in the hopes of fixing any errors or slight problems. My future career is very important to me, and I am very thankful for what Amy and Kristen have given me as help.

MGMT250 Learning Plan Final

So, I'm going to be completely honest, when I started writing my Individual Learning Plan, I was very skeptical. I thought that the paper was redundant and an overall waste of my time, but when it came to writing the paper, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have never sat down and really tried to outline my career. I think that everyone, in their heads, tries to think what they will do with themselves for the rest of their lives, but they never really think about the variables that lead up to everything in general. This paper forced me to sit down and think about my values while interviewing people within my field of interest. On top of it all, I had to think about my goals and dreams and how these variable would help me along the road to where I am going. I never realized how much of my values and dreams/goals intertwined with each other. I always thought that I wanted to be a business man who was on top of the world, but when it comes down to it all, I want to be a family man also. I do not want to be a father who is rarely home to see his children. I grew up in a family where my father was not around a lot, and my family was not really family oriented, and I do not want my future family to be the same way.

MGMT250 HR Simulation

As we began the second year of our HR Simulation, we ran into a few problems. Over the previous year, we had used up all of our programs; therefore, we had to find ways to use our money elsewhere, while maintaining an effective and efficient business within the industry. When it comes to this project, I believe it is all about the group work. At the beginning, my group was very worried abotu the fact that we had already used up all of our programs, and we had a lot of extra money, but when it came down to it, we were able to come together with effective ideas that helped the project out in the long run. My group ran into a lot of differences to begin with, which worried me a great deal when it came down to it, but in the end we put these differences beside and were able to get the ball rolling in the right direction to ensure that our overall grade was good for all of us.

MGMT250 HR Group

Pulling from my last entry, I am going to talk about my HR Group for the HR Simulation. My group consists of five people, including myself. We began by introducing ourselves and interviewing each other. These interviews were crucial because it gave us all insight on how the other members would work in our group, what they would contribute, and what challenges they might bring. Overall, my group has hardworkers and open minds. These two characteristics, I believe, are crucial to a good group. You constantly need people who are on their toes but who are also able to listen to the ideas of others without getting defensive. A group is just that, a group of people who participate in a group collaboration of ideas. My group is very diverse, and I personally would not have it any other way, because we all bring our own backgrounds and ideas to the table without dismissing each others when we do not whole-heartedly agree. So far, we are working great together and getting good results from the simulation, and I can only hope that this continues.
