Vampires in Ohio City
The allegedly-haunted Franklin Castle is again the site of strange doings, with a developer bullshitter hard at work. But here are the real ghouls of the story:
But not if City Councilman Joe Cimperman has his way.Cimperman said neighbors, especially the church-run halfway house for men next door to the castle, were opposed to an upscale private club.
"He's pushing crazy stuff that doesn't even exist," said Cimperman, vowing to block a liquor license for the castle. "The guy has done nothing. Stop the nonsense."
Uh, Joe, whose house is it anyway?

I don't understand. This looks like a total scam from here.

Oh, I'm SURE it's a total scam. He doesn't even yet own the property. But then, neither do Joe Cimperman and St. Herman's House of Hospitality, and they are acting just as much as if they owned the place. Without that liquor licence, it'll never be real. I wouldn't invest in the place, and no sane person would. But that's a different issue from fundamental property rights.

See, here's the key:
"Cimperman said neighbors, especially the church-run halfway house for men next door to the castle, were opposed to an upscale private club."
The fraudulent aspects have nothing to do with it. If Bill Gates or George Soros came in with megabucks, they'd still oppose it. It might make the bums next door feel bad.

The worst part of it is that the absentee owner has an unrealistic estimation of the value of her property. She paid $350K in April of 99 (https://auditor.cuyahogacounty.us/REPI/General.asp?txtParcel=00325074
) and hopes to flip it for $650K based on the other wildly inflated property values in Ohio City. However, what she seems to be missing is that most of these homes have had extensive work done to restore them, while she has done squat to improve the castle. While she is within her rights to ask whatever price she wants, she is still out of her freakin mind. If the owner would come to her senses and offer the place for a more realistic price, someone would be much more likely to buy, she would no longer have the tax burden (miniscule as it is right now at 1,171.95 / half), and the neighborhood property values would be positively effected by having one less boarded up property in Ohio City.
Check out the county auditor's web site for other transfer records on franklin ave. Perhaps she should be courting the guy that bought the westside YMCA (also on Franklin).
