Honkies only need apply

At Boston University, the College Republicans have instituted a scholarship for which you need to be at least 1/4 Caucasian. So far there are no takers. Perhaps no self-respecting Caucasian would apply for such a scholarship. If so, where does that leave other minorities who apply for similar scholarships? You can disagree with these folks on the basis of taste, but not on principle.

Somehow I am reminded of the advertisements placed in local papers that X school does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, etc. etc. per US Code section blahblah. Apparently they are required to do so because they are receiving federal grants.

The kicker is that these are (Jewish) Orthodox day schools and high schools. Wonder what they would do if a real live ghetto kid wanted to be admitted. "Sorry, Antwan, your Aramaic is just not up to our standards. Perhaps you can apply next year."

Right, the whole point of the school is to be religiously...well, maybe not discriminating, but affirmative. In practice, there's no reason for such a school to care what you believe, as long as you say/do the right things and do your homework. And if you don't, that's not discrimination, that's academic failure, because it's what you presumably went to such a school to learn.

I had a friend in college was was kicked out of Wheaton College for heresy (she had joined The Way International and denied the Trinity). Was that religious discrimination?
