Toledo doesn't need a 4th Amendment..or 2nd.
From the Toledo Blade, a former diplomat cold-bloodedly dissects how we could eliminate private printing-press gun ownership:
The disarmament process would begin after the initial three-month amnesty. Special squads of police would be formed and trained to carry out the work. Then, on a random basis to permit no advance warning, city blocks and stretches of suburban and rural areas would be cordoned off and searches carried out in every business, dwelling, and empty building. All firearms would be seized. The owners of weapons found in the searches would be prosecuted: $1,000 and one year in prison for each firearm.I must admit, it's novel to see a police state described without any opinion on its desirability...and more than a little creepy.

His plan only works if all the gun owners agree with the process. You are talking about trying to take a weapon away from a gun owner at gun point. It would be a government sactioned blood bath.

He's asking for a civil war, isn't he?

Oh, it could be done, given enough SWAT teams...which of course would have to arrest for any non-gun offences they found. Pop enough liberals for dope and the whole scheme would fall through. I suspect the SWATs would start having problems too, esp. after enough of them started dying. It's a clear case of turning the boiling frog on "high". If you've got 20 guns or more, and can get a year for each, why not shoot at the jackboots?

It would also be done after the necessary ideological campaign had been in force for enough time to train all goodthinkful people into the idea that every gun owner is a Korean madman in waiting. Gun owners would be penalized in custody proceeding during divorce, refused as tenants or employees...
The first real contingent of Jews sent to the camps was in 1938 (that is, Jews sent for being Jews,as opposed to those Jews sent previously under various political labels), and the death camps not put into operation until the war was well underway. The Nazis took their time raising the water temperature, and made sure the stove was in good working order before they actually started with genocide.

Incredible. The actions he proposes are along the same veins as those that inspired the 2nd Amendment. I feel like mailing the guy a copy of Federalist #46.

Yes, the frog-boiling on gun ownership has been proceeding for awhile and will only get worse. It's amazing how many kids on campus get mugged by fingers-in-pockets. OTOH, a friend and his Israeli wife were held up, and the wife said, "Oh? SHOW me your gun!" while her husband who saw the bulge in the perp's pants turned pale. They DID turn over the money.

It probably helps that that the Israeli right takes gun ownership even more seriously than the American right. Of course, for them it's a necessity: the Yesha is definitely one of the few places where the traditional idea of citizenry = armed militia is put into practice on a daily basis.
