Simpler times

I like the ideal behind this, particularly the idea of creating a planned village without anti-animal zoning (though apparently they are under a broader zoning law). But simplicity comes at a price:

The cost for lots in Simpler Times Village ranges from $20,000 to $80,000, with cost estimates for homes between $100,000 and $500,000. Lot sizes range from one-sixth of an acre to one and a half acres. Lots with more acreage were available but have already been purchased. The community is scheduled to be built in 2008.

And it's a planned community, which means somebody somewhere will have veto power on your livelihood or taste in landscaping. Anybody who enserfs themselves to a Homeowner's Association deserves what they get.

My impression was not merely that someone will have a veto power, but that livelihood and landscaping taste will all be pre-approved or even provided (did you see the list of proposed businesses?) This is a planned community with a planned economy. And since I don't have any pet goats, the opportunity to keep one in my backyard is not that tempting.

Nor does my taste in domestic architecture run to 19th century gemutlichkeit, whether it be Austrian or American.

I mean the idea sounds cool and all .. BUT my concern is for the families who have owned land in that part of Anderson , Indiana area for 15 to 20 years.. raised kids in their home , and have sentimental attatchment to their property.. From what i take it .. they are gonna be forcibly pushed out.. Someone told me that everyone who don't sell their proerty to these people will have to foot the bill to totally redo their whole property and house to accomodate THEIR requirements.. or they can't stay.. Now if that's the case I think it is a crock of #!@$% . !!

What about the people who OWN their property , and have a mortgage they have been paying 15+ years into?? Are these developers going to pay off the remainder of these people's mortgages, AND give them a good lump sum of money to be able to buy another house and property?? If not , I don't think it is a bit fair , and is not only UnChristian-like .. but deplorable..

Wow--I think it's so sad how someones fear can be misconstrued as fact.

People will NOT be forcibly pushed out, nor foot a bill to redo their property to match our architectural requirements, or any such nonsense!

Nobody will have to change anything! I remember someone asking a question in a public forum about that, and I'll tell you, I can understand the concern there--so I hope that it helps to know the truth on it!

The problem with the post above is someone will read that, and then have it in their mind that we're kicking everyone out, and think horrible things of us all for nothing!

Thanks so much, call my cell at 800-581-3603 if you have any questions!

Josh is correct, people will NOT be forcibly pushed out, but to say "they won't have to change anything" is just nonsense.

We - the neighbors - will have to make changes that do anything but simplify our lives. From dealing with increased traffic to larger classroom sizes in schools. The housing itself is a wonderful idea, but the business aspect turns this into a nightmare for neighbors who moved to this area to live a semi-rural life in safe, quiet neighborhoods. Should you actually get all the financial backing necessary, you'll be taking that away from us.
