Seriously, Java is just bloatware for web development. Not only does it take longer to program, but it is a pain to deploy and configure properly. It has its niche though...
I think one obstacle to greater Rails adoption is the way the Ruby culture is perceived by management types. "Chunky bacon" and "Enterprise web applications" don't quite fit together. Fairly or not, I think this may be getting in the way.
