What do you expect from a piece of software that doesn't support a database storage backend? Do you know how slow text files are? Do you know how much slower NFS is than a physical disk? Look at Dokuwiki. Enough said.
It's not the speed. The friggin' configuration of it is absolutely mind-boggling (and stupid, as far as I can tell).
