Some Technical Notes on Google's Mobile Services

Mental notes (serialized to blog) to myself concerning delivering web content to handhelds and in regards to how Google does it currently. Google Mobile Search, Mobile GMail, and Mobile News all use XHTML-MP with CSS delivered inline or in the <head> section with <style type="text/css"> sections. They do a lot of sprinkling of presentational HTML in there, too.

One interesting note. Mobile search is delivered with Content-type set to text/html. Mobile GMail and Mobile News are delivered as application/xhtml+xml.

The Mobile Maps stuff require a phone with a JRE on it and you must download an app to your phone.
