The second half of the robustness principle is counter-productive when nobody follows the first half. When most people follow the principle, the relationship is one of mutual cooperation, with both parties making an effort to get along. When most people ignore the first half of the principle, the relationship is like domestic abuse, with one person continually beating up the other.
