Spring Break is Over...
Spring Break went by so quickly it is ridiculous. While about eight friends or so went to New York for Spring Break I spent it for the most part in Cleveland. I did visit my mom at home on her days off though. I read so much for my classes it was in itself tiring. I got a head start on some papers whose deadlines are trying to creep up on me. On the first Saturday of Spring Break I arranged a get-together with some of my friends. It truned out to be a couples night amongst us which was nice. Everyone had a great time which was a much appreciated given the fact that my two best-freinds from Lorain came with their boyfirends and didn't know my suitemate and her boyfriend.
We ended up going to Gookies which is a superb soul food restaurant on Superior Ave, which is only about 15 minutes away. It is not in the best neighborhood but once you get inside you can't tell at all. I recommend the restaurant simply for their cornbread muffins. After this night I realized my suitemate could make cornbread just as moist and tasty which was a pleasant surprise. Anyways that was not the only night I had fun this break. There were other days that we (my suitemate and our boyfriends)took advantage of having the suite to ourselves by cooking and playing spades in a clean suite. I live in a suite of 5 but we have at least 9 people in our suite at any given time. Over spring break that number was reduced to 4.
Along with catching up/getting ahead with school work I decided to rack up some Service Learning hours. There is a Service Learning Component in my Ethnic Studies class; Women in Developing Countries. We are working with the largest Middle Eastern Newspaper in the Ohio; Al Sahafa (the reporter). We have to do 20 hours of work with them. For distributing 150 newspapers I earn two hours of work. I have done that twice but as you can imagine that will not suffice in reaching the 20 hour requirement. So on the day I would rather be sleeping-in I was getting up early and driving with a peer and future suitemate to thew West Side of Cleveland which is about a 30 min. drive. So far I have 16 hours of which is quite an improvement compared to the former 4 hours. Included in these hours is the time we spent at the Cleveland Film Festival which was on St. Patrick's Day. It was held in Tower City which was packed with people dressed in green, eating corn-beef. I seen "Red Mercury" which was a Middle Eastern Movie about terrorism which I found quite interesting. With that said my blog-break is over and I must keep reading...

I'm Back
Well I haven't written anything since last semester when I finished my last SAGES but I have returned like the prodigal child to reclaim my throne. I have to be at work at 5pm so I won't write much. This entry is to let everyone know I'm still alive. Just been very busy. Afro-Am's Cultural Dinner "A Novel Through Hip-Hop" was a success like no other and I'm not just saying that because I'm on the exec board. Make sure to come to next years. I can't believe today is Ash Weds. It is still freezing out and my new warm coat has a malfuncioning zipper so I can't wait till it feels like spring. I'm starving because I'm fasting today because I'm Catholic. I decided last night that I would give up eating after 10pm for Lent. I usually give up something food related for Lent since I really like food and the sacrifice is capable of being done unlike breaking habits like saying "retarded" all the time. Trying to be PC is so much harder than it looks. Of all days in House 6 a friend of mine is having a Puerto Rican night where there'll be authentic Puerto Rican food and I can't even eat any of it. I promised I'd come by so I will mos def take a plate with me for tomorrow. Since I gave up eating after 10pm I can't even eat anything at midnight like I usually do following a fast. I just wist my stomach would stop growling I would think my body would realize by now it has nothing to digest b/c it is way to loud. For my work-study I tutor 10th graders at the East Cleveland Library which is only about a 10 minute drive. I enjoy tutoring it is easygoing & the students are so much fun. One thing there is alot of at Case is opportunities to volunteer in Cleveland especially around campus. I work from 5pm-7pm Mon. through Thurs. and on Sat mornings I tutor at Church of the Convenant which has children from K-12. I had an interview today to be a student custodial assistant over the summer here at Case. Housing would be covered and I'd be paid 9 bucks an hour. I am also applying for an internship at Florida State University but I'm not sure that will fall through. Well I'm bout to head out so I will get back when I can probably next week.
