DirecTV sucks/Wii rules

Saturday was supposed to be a nice day with sunshine and relatively warm temperatures. I was also scheduled to have DirecTV attempt to install my TV service for the third time. Well third-times-a-charm it wasn't. After failing to install my new dish due to weather, then not properly rescheduling installation, and now not bringing the proper ladder to get the dish high enough because the job had been specified incorrectly. The supreme incompetence of DirecTV boggles the mind and it has cost them a customer as I will be canceling my service with them on Monday. All of the shows I really like can be downloaded or streamed off the internet. I have also come to the conclusion that watching sports is a complete waste of time. In the last six months or so I have also come to appreciate the podcasting/vidcasting phenomenon much more, consequently, no TV service will have little affect on me.

As I mentioned in my previous post my newly constructed HTPC will allow me to enjoy said downloaded content in a much more quality fashion. Speaking of which, Saturday night I watched some TV shows I had missed from the previous week using my HTPC and it kicks ass. Conclusion: F-your-face DirecTV (Rupert Murdock has enough money anyway).

Saturday wasn't a complete wash however; my Nintendo Wii arrived. Needless to say I have been overwhelmingly satisfied with it thus far. I was initially apprehensive about the lower graphical power and motion control scheme. These fears were unjustified. While graphics can make an already good game great, they cannot save a bad game. This is due to the simple fact that if a game is fun to play, that's all that matters (just look at Tetris). If future Wii games follow the guidelines (great gameplay combined with creative graphical art design) set by the two games I have so far (Wii Sports and Zelda: Twilight Princess), I can see the Wii competing greatly for my free time with my XBOX 360. Simple, fun, addictive gameplay is what the early game systems solely relied on. Games like Gears of War offer spectacular graphics and textures, but what keeps gamers coming back for more is that it is amazingly fun to play. It's for this same reasons that I played Wii tennis for over an hour today to refine my shots in this deceptively simple game. I can't wait till I get my component video cable to clean up the graphics a little on my HDTV.

I've been an unsatisfied customer of the direct TV for a few years. March 26 I received a bill that said the account had not been paid for two months. On February 12 I paid my bill online and received a receipt for the payment.
March 27, my TV screen went blank. I called them and they said I had not paid my bill. NO WARNING.
Just shut off the service. Apparently my online payment never went thru. NO problem just bill me and I'll pay the bill.
NOt DirecTV. They'll teach me a lesson. Cut off his TV service. DirecTv stinks. Go to the other Dish. Dish Network said they would never cut off my service without a warning.
So my advice, which I will take---Stay away from the rotten service of DirecTV

I have had DIRECTV service installed at 3 locations and each time had to badger the tech into performing the installtion. These guys are ultra lazy and dont appear to like to get their hands dirty. I just canceled my contract because this last time they wouldnt do my install citing that I lived in a HOA and need the HOA approval. The HOA requires a deposit of $500 and a processing fee of $100, in addition, 6 of your neighbors must sign off an "impacted neighbor" statement that they approve of your install. With all of this I decide to cancel. DIRECTV was kind enough to debit my bank account THE TERMINATION FEE without my approval. When I called they said it was in the terms of service. (They are so clever) it was a small amount of money, but the principle of it pissed me off. Its a shame that DIRECTV has the monopoly on the NFL, because I would really like to have NFL network and sunday ticket, but I hope I never am tempted to do business with Directv.

Complain to Chase Carey CEO dtv: 1800-666-4388.

Do like I did and just tie up his 5 operators, Benjamin,Whitney,Emily, Jaime, Unknown. I just called repeatedly for 2-3hrs non stop asking for him. They will say he cannot come, just rinse and repeat until they tire of you, and resolve your issue. It works unfortunately.

DirecTV sucks! Good article. On a side note, if you have time take a gander at my site http://gamblinganon.blogspot.com for info on online gambling addiction.

It's great to see the hacks around the WII console. Even homebrew is possible now on the WII console. So, playing with the WII is just a great thing to do.

I have DISH Network satellite service and have never had issues with the install or anything else for that matter. Both DIRECTV and DISH use independent contracters a lot so my guess it was just bad luck on your part to get some guy that wasn't that knowledgeable. Perhaps he was new to the job also.

Wii games can kill a lot of time. I really enjoy playing Guitar Hero. Sometimes my fingers just do not move fast enough.

Wii to the rescue! Thank god for the Wii, sounds like it saved your day. Yea, i'm not a big fan of direct TV. I had their service and I was watching a Baseball game and right in the middle of a key moment, boom, blacked out. Direct TV sucks. However Wii is awseome.
