XBOX Repaired

My repaired (ie. replaced) XBOX 360 arrived yesterday. So far I am fairly pleased with the new unit. I'm not sure which version of DVD drive the new 360 has but it is somewhat quieter than the jet engine in my original 360. The power button is also better. My old 360's power switch was squishy and needed to be pressed very hard to turn the console on or off. The new unit has a nice clicky power button that performs much better.

Having read a fair amount about XBOX 360 repairs and the various motherboard revisions it has undergone, I was curious about which version they would send me. Upon inspection via the vent on the side of the 360 I can clearly see the large heatsink used on the 90nm CPU and the extended GPU cooler heatpipe behind it. I had read that sometimes Microsoft replaces original motherboards (Xenon) with boards featuring 65nm CPUs (Opus), however, this doesn't appear to be the case for my unit. So I effectively sent in this

and got this back

This comprises a jump from 1st to 2nd gen 360 where the only major change is the additional GPU cooling. Wikipedia has a good breakdown of the various hardware revisions here. Time will tell how reliable my new unit will be.

looks like they did a good job and you should be home and hosed with a nice new motherboard - good to see they actually do their work when you send them stuff to fix - thanks for giving us the heads up.

Nice one man. My XBOX 360 broke again after this though, but I did manage to fix it myself with the guide at http://www.power-button.com :)

Did Xbox actually say what was wrong with your console? Microsoft always just seem to go for the replacement option and never the actual repair and diagnosis route.

Still, ok if you would prefer a new one. Although, if you are like me you would want the old broken bits back so you can play with them!

I just hate why 360s broke easy. The unreadable is my biggest problem now and i can't seem to fix cause of the new CD roms.

They should have tested the product more before releasing it. There are so many problems it's just ridiculous.

Well the heating was the biggest problem the xbox 360 faced.
I was wondering how long till you go got it back from the repair ? and how much you paid for it ?

looks nice .. hope the overheating is less in the new one so then it will last longer ...

they have now announced the new xbox 360 which is very slick and has a side fan on the case giving it a new cooling system.

OMG, i get the unreadable disc error thing allllll the time. I hate it so much

Me too, I always getting the unreadable disc error all the time. What do you think is the problem with this? I really don't know to fix this thing. Please help..

I have the same issue and I'm really lost now. I don't know what to do.
