Heavy Temptations for a Dream

One of the dreams I wrote in class yesterday was to serve in public office. For someone who likes security and certainty in life (as I wrote in my learning plan) the whimsical career of someone earning a job through the ballot box seems quite contrary to my desires. However, serving in public office would only come after I do establish security, particularly financially, in my life which is another dream I wrote. As they always do, watching the election results last night piqued my interest in serving in public office. The day when I have the opportunity to achieve that dream, however, is far off and so now I will focus on my goals in the nearer future as I will write soon in my learning plan.

Many of my goals concern things that are far into the future as well. What I learned in class on Tuesday was that it doesn't matter how far into the future our goals will be taking place. The sooner we start to work towards them, the better. That way, even if we don't reach a particular goal, we will be farther ahead than where we started. The experience gained is worth the effort even if we never achieve our ideal results.

A lot of goals too had to deal with the future. In fact, one my goals is to run for public office. However, I know that I need to accomplish a lot of short-term goals in order to build up for the long-term goal of running for public office. This is a real nice entry.

The one problem I see with your desire to run for public office is the connection you made to watch elections results. The dream of having a certain job is different than the "dream" of being a secret agent. To reach this dream will take much planning, experience, and effort. I would warn against rushing into something based upon the adrenaline rush you received while watching election results. However, now isn't a bad time to start planning for something like public office. You'll know law school is a good choice, etc. Let me caution you on announcing your desires to run too early: They'll start the smear campaign when They smell you coming.
