wiretapping on citizens is beyond the pale...

... according to the majority of respondents in a new Zogby poll. (I found the link at HeightsMom.)

Would I be outraged if any of my phone calls to Europe had been recorded without a warrant? I certainly would. We should not be such an isolationist nation that any American who converses with a foreigner can be considered a threat to homeland security and be deprived of due process rights.

It's going to be an interesting year.... I wonder if Meet the Bloggers has asked each of the candidates for the open position of U.S. Senator or U.S. Representative from Ohio what they feel is the appropriate response to President Bush's assertions about wiretapping?

Speaking of Meet the Bloggers: there is a fundraising dinner next Thursday, Jan. 26 to support the technical costs that this group incurs in its efforts to inform voters about candidates' positions, at the Pearl of the Orient. If you have ever considered supporting the League of Women Voters or similar nonpartisan efforts, I encourage you to consider attending the fundraiser or dropping a tip in George's jar with a note that it's for the MTB fund.
