The Alternative of Affirmitive.......Action, That is!

I know I should write about something directly managerial, but my subject matter is something we did touch on in class....Affirmative Action. Affirmative action is the "steps that are taken to eliminate the present effects of past discrimination" (382 Dessler). That may be what it is, but here's what it's not. Affirmative action is NOT about a quota of BLACK, HISPANIC, or any other underrepresented minority. Those who feel that they have a quota to reach usually do create reverse discrimination. Instead, affirmative action is about creating opportunities, whether it be jobs for minorities or Title IX for women's sports. My reasoning for this blog is b/c last year affirmative action was a very popular subject. Keep this in mind....your current president is a product of affirmative action. The legacy policy/scholarship is a form of affirmative actions that allow benefits b/c one's parent attended the educational institution and is probably still a paying alumna.

Your comment that legacy policy/scholarship is a form of affirmative action is thought-provoking!

But how does it fit the definition you quote at the begining of your post?

"Steps that are taken to eliminate the present effects of past discrimination" (382 Dessler).
