John Creighton
The Jonah Creighton case shows hows sticking up for your ideals can hurt you in certain business climates. In Jonah's case, his position against racial discrimination cost him his job and his credibility while not effecting the racial climate of his company. As discouraging as that is, it doesn't mean that he shouldn't have made objections. In cases where one's personal beliefs conflict with company policy, you have to be ready to accept that no matter what you do, the company may not change. What you have to decide is if it is important enough to you to risk loosing your job. Jonah's situation may have been improved if he had tried more strategic methods to generate change. He could have approached a local newspaper about the situation, contacted the ACLU, or contacted the African American candidate who was discriminated against.
