WELCOME TO
Matthew's World
My name is Matthew Schiefer (pronounced "she-fer").
I received a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Biomedical Engineering (BME) from Vanderbilt University (Nashville, Tennessee) in May 2001. I then came to Case Western Reserve University (a.k.a. CASE) (Cleveland, Ohio), where I received my Masters of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering in May 2003. Now I'm working toward my Ph.D. in the same field. My primary focus is selective activation of fascicles within the femoral nerve using a nerve cuff electrode for the purpose of restoring standing function to paralyzed individuals.
In my spare time I enjoy cooking (particularly desserts), racquetball, tennis, ultimate frisbee (though I'm not very good at it yet), and photography. And, of course, I always enjoy grabbing a drink or catching a movie with my girlfriend, Marjorie, my housemate, Brian (also from Vanderbilt and about to start his residency at University Hospitals in Cleveland) or my other good friends.
