Business person of the Year (2006)

Time's website lists the top 10 contenders for "Business Person of the year" as:

1. Mick Davis
2. Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim
3. Clara Furse
4. John McAdam
5. Lakshmi Mittal
6. Rupert Murdoch
7. Stuart Rose
8. Robert Schofield
9. Philippe Varin
10. Ben Verwaayen

It's interesting to note that two of the business people on the list are on the list due to website acquisitions. Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim (the founders of YouTube, the video-sharing website) were credited for creating an "internet phenomenon" in 18 months – and then selling it to Google in October for $1.6 billion. You can see Jawed Karim tell the story of YouTube’s growth here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nssfmTo7SZg
Time's website noticed Rupert Murdoch (News Corp chief executive) for "taking his media empire into a new realm with the purchase of MySpace, the online social network."

Although stories of internet millionaires getting rich quick aren't as prevalent as they once were, the internet is still full of business opportunities. In contrast to other business innovations that underwent sudden growth and dominated the business world for a brief amount of time, the Internet continues to reinvent itself and provides new opportunities to create fortunes. However, the Internet is, and will probably always be a volatile business arena. Achieving success in the internet requires several important factors such as being there at the right time, in the right place, with the right tools and knowledge.
