Professor Lenore A. Kola of MSASS will accept the honor during the Recovery Resources 19th annual Bronze Key Gala at the InterContinental Hotel in Cleveland on Thursday, November 12, from 5:30-9:30 p.m.  This gala affair is the largest event in the region in support of recovery.

"As we reflect on the our relationship with CWRU, we cannot help but recognize your part in elevating both our agency and the field of alcohol and substance abuse treatment through your innovative planning and your commitment to state-of-the-art programs and academic curricula," said Debora A. Rodriguez, president and CEO of Recovery Resources, in a letter to Gilmore announcing the school’s honor.  "Your students, many of whom we have the opportunity to help train and then hire, are wonderfully prepared for the rigors of community behavior health care upon graduation."

Among the programs and curricula Rodriguez highlights is the Dual Disorders Fellowship Program, which is unique to the region and has benefited not only Recovery Resources, but thousands of men, women and youth in our community who are challenged by both substance dependence and mental health disorders.  The fellowships support continued education for mental health professionals to acquire the skills necessary to support people dealing with multiple diagnoses.

Dr. Kola and Dr. Robert J. Ronis of the CWRU School of Medicine and the Department of Psychiatry at University Hospitals, were co-founders of the SAMI Coordinating Center for Excellence, which provides evidence-based practices, training and consultation for those treating individuals with a mental health disorder and a drug or alcohol dependency.

"The Mandel School's recognition that oftentimes these two diagnoses go hand-in-hand is critical to ensuring that our clients receive a holistic treatment approach while on their recovery journey," said Rodriguez.
