Can anyone explain this paradox to me? So we kill someone that is well and alife because his actions did not fit our current moral standards yet we refuse to let die someone who is unfit for life because it is a monstruosity. Blows my brain......

Spanish connexion

My car breaks broke. They had been bad for months. There was a leak somewhere so I had to keep a break fluid bottle in the car and fill up from time to time. Lately it went straight to the asphalt, I knew it was going to cost me a kidney and a right-eye lash if not another rib. I ask one of my hispanic friends whether he knew some cheap yet trustworthy garage. Indeed he knew, right in the middle of Ohio City. I didn't think that was a garage when we went in... get this, the piece that was leaking would have cost over 300 bocks new, the guy will get a second hand one, mount it, replace the brakes (which were worn out) and charge me less that $150 for all... That's nice isn't it? Thing is, I still don't have a car (it's been three days)....

Indecent activities

I just heard, -I think I heard right...- abotion and gay marriage put in the same category of wrong-doing. buff! They guy said "if we allow all those INDECENT activities... blablabla" WOW! Indecent is to get married now. I always thought the question wasn't whether two of the same sex should marry or not but whether anyone should get married at all. What a drag! Marriage is a civil state. It has nothing to do with religion, other that in its origins. But so does law, yet the religious authorities don't have a saying in today's lawmaking.... or do they? The truth is, most of us would like they do not. When they do is undercover... Why does society give browny points to married couples? of course everyone wants to get married, even when the can't stand each other. Aren't all citizens equal? single or married. I think that's where the real discrimination resides....

Evidence Based Medicine

Nobody questions today that physicians ought to be paying close attention to the recent advances in biosciences. In other words, evidence based medicine, EBM in physician slang. Everyone knows that, given the degree of egocentrism of the humankind, the best way to engage someone in an activity is by participating in it; making it personal. In the research/medicine interface there is a conflict that seems to pass by unnoticed. The question I’ve been asking to my MD colleagues is: What is the difference between a diagnosis and a hypothesis? Do you dare providing an answer? Go on, post a comment....

For those of you, English speakers, who are interested in Spanish poetry and in the Gipsy Lore, I translated the poem from Lorca. Enjoy. Notice how despite he would take the "honor" of a maid, which would have been disastrous for her life and for her family's reputation, she is still the naughty one. For she was married and cheated....

Graduation Requirements

Two first-author publications is an excellent scientific standard for our graduates. I am a fierce defendant of this requirement because it creates a good perspective for our future careers. However, I don't understand how can it be a requirement without a mechanism that a student can trigger that would guarantee its accomplishment when it comes to matters beyond the student's responsibilities....
