United States Steel Corporation Annual Reports

The United States Steel Corporation Annual Reports are now up in Digital Case, beginning with the first issue in 1902. In 2003 a Library Opportunity Grant was awarded to Kelvin Smith Library and the Weatherhead School of Management(WSOM) to digitize and make publicly available 100 years of the annual reports for U.S. Steel. Faculty in the WSOM have a continuing interest in business and accounting history. Of particular interest is the longitudinal/historical developments for various steel and auto and auto supply companies. U.S Steel Corporation is particularly important because it is the first billion dollar capitalized corporation to emerge in the United States. As such it serves as the prototype of what was going to happen in business during the 20th century. Having a full picture of the financial reporting over the 100 years will give not only business scholars but researchers in history, law, political science and other fields a valuable “window” into how the process developed and changed over time.
