Observing the Natural World: The Art & Science of Natural History
Kelvin Smith Library presents Observing the Natural World: The Art and Science of Natural History. Beginning in the 1830s, Clevelanders with an interest in natural history established societies to collect, catalog and study natural history specimens. These local initiatives reflected broader developments in the field of natural history.
On display in KSL’s Hatch Reading Room now through the end of September, the exhibit includes representative books and periodicals from the 16th through 19th centuries, the original courses and texts of Western Reserve University’s biology curriculum, field notes, hand-drawn illustrations, photographs and specimen catalogs. Stop by during regular business hours to view this unique collection.
