Kelvin Smith Library – Technology Team

Job Description:
The Kelvin Smith Library Technology Team is looking for assistance with current, ongoing, and future application development. Projects undertaken by the Tech Team are dynamic, web centric, database driven applications, which will allow the administrators and users real-time access to a variety of information resources.

Tech Team developed applications utilize web forms generated using the Visual Basic .Net technologies to perform all interface functions. Applications use an Oracle 9i database for business logic processing in the backend with packaged procedures coded in PL/SQL. Candidate should be familiar with ERD diagrams and data modeling in general.

Kelvin Smith Library is looking for students with object-oriented coding aptitude, who can work as much as 20 hours/3-5 days a week. The skill sets you will be using with us will lead to preferred consideration by after-college employers.

Preferred Skill Set for Employment
Object oriented program development aptitude. Preferably ASP & VB .Net
Familiarity with relational database concepts. Preferably Oracle 8 or higher
Familiarity with web site development and page design using IIS 5 or higher.

Important Experience
Specific preference is given to candidates with experience building web enabled applications that interact with a SQL database backend server, including front end interface design and supporting middleware. Knowledge of common SQL query and DDL are necessary to be successful in this environment

Technical Environment
Technology Team applications use the following technologies

IIServer 5.0 – Visual Studio .Net web hosting server
Oracle 9i – backend database services
Visual Basic – middle layer services. These will be coded transactions that will contain business logic that will enforce the business rules. This will utilize the Microsoft .Net Server
Visual Studio – all GUI Front end application development will be performed using the .Net development Studio.

Compensation and Contact
The Tech Team offers a competitive wage based on the technical skills required for this position. Wage is $12.00/hour. Candidates with work study are preferred.
