Casinos like Harrah's and the Tangiers are on the Right Track

According to the Harrah’s case article, most of the casinos in Las Vegas are product-oriented as opposed to customer-oriented. Casinos like Harrah’s are customer-oriented and have the right strategy.

I base my opinion on two main reasons. The first reason being that the big “special attractions” of the product-oriented casinos are not wise investments since they usually only perform well in the first two years and then do poorly. The second reason is that it seems that since the classic casinos of the 1970’s like the Tangiers, casinos have become less and less customer-oriented which really works against them. Towards the end of the movie “Casino”, Robert DeNiro explains that the old casinos in Las Vegas were great because they had excellent service and how the newer ones were run by big corporations who did not run them well. The main flaw he pointed out was that the new casinos did not know their customers on a personal level and said that going into a casino was like “[. . .] checking into an airport”. Being more customer-oriented would help the casinos gain back the prestige they once had in the 1970’s.

I like your comparison of the Harrah's casino case to the classic movie Casino. It's almost irnoic that Harrah's has followed the strategy of DeNiro's character. Well, at least that one point. I certainly don't think the other behind the scenes goings on at DeNiro's casino would make Harrah's a success!
