On 25 February 2008, the NSF Computer and Information Science and Engineering Directorate announced a strategic relationship with Google and IBM that will provide the academic research community with access to a large-scale, distributed computing cluster. Currently this cluster includes approximately 1600 processors and access has been granted to a few universities. NSF will release a formal RFP (at a future date that has not yet been specified) to permit researchers to request access to the resource.
