Feedback
While discussing feedback in class on Wednesday, I was reminded of some of the feedback I have received in the workplace. When I worked at Taco Bell, we had an employee program called CHAMPS. Whenever an employee made an effort to complete a difficult job, the manager would give them a Champs card for their effort. The employee with the most cards at the end of the week was the "Champ of the week". Although this program was based soley on positive feedback, it helped some employees realize they weren't always doing what was expected of them. It also encouraged other employees to work harder. Basically, feedback doesn't always have to be negative to be effective.

I am glad to hear that the Champs program was motivating to employees. Was there some sort of prize or bonus given to the employee with the most Champs cards? Did you every have the most? When I worked at Coldstone Creamery, we had a program sort of like that with prizes at the end. The only problem was that I never heard who won or had high points, so I wasn't motivated by it. If the managers had made a bigger deal of announcing the winners it would have been much more motivating to me.

Yes, for the employee who had the most cards for the week, they would receive a $10 kmart gift certificate. We also had a Champ of the month who received a $40 kmart gift card. I won Champ of the month twice!!

Did anyone ever abuse this program? Or was there that one guy that'd try to win each and every week and would eventually discourage everyone else?
That's the biggest problem I see with this program. In a competitive environment, I can see how well this'd work. Is the program still in place?
At Subway, the managers would let us steal cookies or chips or a sandwhich if we did a good job. That was enough for me!
