Eating our own dogfood

So, in order to better test out our new and improved mailing list manager, I converted our little group's mail alias to a full-on mailing list.

At present, the steps involved in doing something like this are as follows:

  1. Edit the Master Aliases file (a remnant from our old, sendmail-based mail system prior to 2/8/2003), commenting out the old alias.
  2. Run (by hand) the script which updates the JES MS alias files from the Master alias file
  3. Wait a couple of minutes for the alias to get removed from the LDAP server (it was close enough to the time that cron does this anyway), thus removing it from the Mirapoint AV/Antispam SMTP servers.
  4. forget that the JES MS MTA needs to be recompiled/restarted for a few minutes, and wonder why Sympa isn't letting me create a new list ;-)
  5. Re-compile/restart the MTA, and find that I can now create my list!
  6. Populate list with members of group, and set permissions accordingly (i.e. further subscribing isn't allowed, but posting is allowed from nearly anywhere, and archives are available to subscribers)
  7. Send test message to group!

Obviously, some more work is needed before we can start migrating majordomo lists, but it's getting there...
