IRS Warns of Scams against .edu users

July 11, 2006

The Internal Revenue Service issued an alert last week concerning a flurry of email-based phishing scams aimed primarily at users with .edu email addresses.

If you care about your tax ID as much as Lux does, don't respond to these messages.

The best way to combat phishing is to forward the messages to pirt@castlecops.com. The CastleCops site is a volunteer organization that goes through legal and normal means to take down phishing sites.

As a shameless commercial, now would be a good time to consider becoming a volunteer PhishKiller for CastleCops. They provide training, and you can be part of the solution, rather than an idle spectator, or worse. www.castlecops.com
