Welcome to Case! If you are returning, Welcome Back!
In helping out with move-ins, I've seen some savvy freshmen getting integrated in the Case network.
One student, after successfully registering his laptop on the wired network, immediately went to the software center and installed the Symantec AntiVirus 10.1 on his nifty new Gateway laptop. He found a virus and trojan horse program on the system already, nicely quarrantined. You don't want to start out your college experience with Another student, using a WindowsXP laptop, listened well to her father and was using a non-administrative account for daily work, and only used an aministrator account for software installation and configuration work. This is because if malware arrives at your machine (via email, file shares, IM clients, etc.), it may not be able to infect it since these problems typically only work with the credentials of the user logged in at the time.
More info for new students and ITS can be found at Services for New Students.
