New CSE Talking Points Cards

Later this week, we will be delivering our brand new CSE 2006-2007 Talking Points cards to all departments.

Let me know if you need additional quantities for your department. That said, please keep in mind that these are designed for a relativeliy internal audience (faculty, corporate advisory board members, etc.).

These cards - which were written, designed and printed in-house - touch on some of the key points we hope you and your key stakeholders will share when they are discussing CSE with external folks.

Thanks,
Steve

P.S. There's one error that I know of on the card: Our grad program is ranked 42nd, not 43rd. My bad.

Notification Problems / Value of Research

Some people reported issues with trying to sign up for blog notifications. This problem has been resolved.

Also, I'm currently assembling story ideas for the 2006-2007 issue of the Value of Research. I will be presenting my ideas to Dean Blackwell on August 2. Let me know if there are any big research projects in your department that you would like to see covered.

Get Your Copy of the Value of Research

Hey all,

For those of you who didn't get your copy at Research ShowCase, you can now get your very own copy of the Value of Research. Here's the announcement from the Office of Research Administration:

"It is a privilege to present the 3rd edition of the Value of Research to the many stakeholders of Case Western Reserve University and affiliates who understand and champion the inherent importance of university research. With the goal of extending this understanding to a larger audience, this book offers tangible evidence of the profound social, economic, and cultural impact that these academic endeavors have on our world…"

The The Value of Research is an annual free publication. To view publication click http://ora.ra.cwru.edu/ospa/

To order a free hard copy of the 2005-06 Value of Research publication, email your full address to Lisa Sabato, University Printing Services acg2@case.edu.

No word yet on bulk orders. Please stay tuned.

Nostalgia Day: Who Likes Bacon?

George Cadwallader just found a box containing eight of those silver piggy banks CSE had made a couple years ago. They're improperly branded so they can't be used as giveaways, but anyone within CSE who wants one as a momento of the days of the old CWRU logo should let me know ASAP (feel free to stop by, call or e-mail me). I'm giving them away on a first-come, first-served basis.

Giveaways on a Budget

CSE Marketers,

I know many of our units have year-end celebrations and/or summer outreach programs. Since our budget situation may make it impossible this year to purchase promotional materials for these type of events, keep in mind that we do have various items already on hand that we can provide to units free of charge.

Examples include:

-Mini Case 125th anniversary notepads
-CSE window decals (perfect for graduating seniors)
-CSE bottled water
-Copies of Case Engineering magazine and the CSE Annual Report
-Copies of the CSE Graduate Studies brochure (a great item for faculty who will be attending professional conferences)

I'd be happy to have quantities of any of these materials delivered directly to your office. Please call or e-mail me if you are interested.

P.S. If any of you are looking to get new materials of you own, also please keep in mind that I'm available to help plan, price and/or purchase publications or promotional items (how's that for alliteration?).

Research ShowCase - Next Week!

I hope all of you are planning to attend Research ShowCase April 5 and 6. ShowCase is a wonderful event to promote to your external stakeholders and a reminder to all of us of what makes Case great!

With all that great Case research on display and guests like Morgan Spurlock (Supersize Me) and Kary Mullis (Nobel Prize-winning inventor of PCR), this year's event promises to be bigger and better than ever.

CSE has always had a substantial presence at ShowCase, and that's true again this year:

-Peter Pintauro and Gary Wnek of ECHE will be part of a Wednesday discussion on "Energy in the 21st Century" (Jody Griech of CSE Development and I will be staffing this session).
-David Schiraldi of EMAC will be part of a Thursday discussion on "Innovation and Creativity."
-By my latest count, there are more than 120 engineering-related posters, presentations and live demonstrations throughout the two days.
-Finally, for the first time ever, CSE will have its own booth for the event. Please stop by and say hi. I'll be handing out various CSE literature and promotional items.

I had Research ShowCase postcards delivered to each department last week. Please let me know if you need additional assistance promoting this event.
