MIDS 458 product Analysis
Product Analysis: Cell Phones
These days every man, woman and even children carry a device in their pocket which lets them communicate with other people. It is estimated that 86.1 million people in America alone carry this device in their pockets everyday. However, not all seem to perceive it or even use it the same way. Some use it to make calls, others to send short text messages. In the Far East cell phones are used to buy tickets to movies, movie concerts or even train rides.
Last year during the MIS course we got to meet an innovator (Mr. Yoo with no relation to the Prof) who had designed a jacket to meet the needs to all the gadgets that people carry these days – PDA’s, MP3 players, cell phones etc. I believe we might see a convergence of all the technologies/gadgets into one device which would not require all those pockets now.
The cell phones too have gone through many phases, from the time when Martin Cooper made the first call in April 1973 till today when we can surf the web through the cell phone and make videos and share it with friends and family. The cell phones means differently to different people and this difference will further broaden up as other mobile devices converge into one. Probably by then it won’t be called a cell phone anymore.
MIDS 458 Team Project Proposal
Our team decided to do a case study of the WCPN and WVIZ merger. We will include a brief history of the two organizations and what lead them to the merger, the organizational goals and mission, the digital infrastructure and the resulting organizational change.
The merger is still in process and presents several ongoing challenges. Our team will observe how company culture, ongoing funding issues/opportunities, and organizational location impact decisions made regarding corporate knowledge.
