Over the summer, we will be scanning a three volume set of diaries from the founder of the Cleveland Clinic, George Crile Sr. These diaries chronicle part of his time served at U.S. Army Medical Corps hospitals in France during World War I. They are filled with notes, letters and photographs. Check back for more details later this summer when they will be live on Digital Case. A small preview below: View image

A new collection has been loaded of Dr. Rolfe Petschek collected papers, from 1970-2010. This collection contains various publication authored or co-authored by Dr. Petschek. New publications will be added on an annual basis.

There is a new collection in Digital Case of fifty WWI-era photographs taken between 1914 - 1918. These photographs include: action scenes, battleships, victims, airships, and personalities such as Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford and politicians.

A new collection of medical theses are now available on Digital Case here. Twenty theses from the first volume (1844) are now live and searchable, and we will continue to add theses on a regular basis. These theses were completed for the School of Medicine of Western Reserve University. This collection was scanned from the collection of the Dittrick Medical History Center. University Archives Commencement Collection includes audio recordings, images, invitations, programs, and speeches, concerning concerts, convocations, receptions, and other events held to confer degrees, honorary degrees, awards, and prizes and to celebrate the accomplishments of graduating students. Manuscripts Relating to the Early History of the Western Reserve, 1795-1869, was the first collection of manuscripts to be assembled by the Western Reserve Historical Society, and its provenance is closely intertwined with the circumstances of the institution's founding. Chiefly responsible for the acquisition of the materials comprising the collection was Charles W. Whittlesey, the Society's first president. According to the Society's second annual report (1869), Whittlesey assembled the collection from a variety of different sources and by several means: he purchased the papers of the Connecticut Land Company under the authority of the Cuyahoga County commissioners, solicited accounts and original manuscripts from early settlers and their descendents, and added documents that he and some earlier enthusiasts had gathered as their own personal collections. Prominent among these latter additions were the materials collected by John Barr and Leonard Case for an earlier, failed historical society. Click here to connect to the collection in Digital Case.

Yearbooks represent a student perspective on the events and personalities of the academic year. Yearbooks include information about and images of individual students, student clubs and organizations, athletics, performances, the campus, faculty, administrators, and major events. All of Case Western Reserve University's 19 current and historic schools and colleges are represented. These yearbooks represent a small portion of the entire archival collection. William Fickinger joined the physics department at Case Western Reserve in 1967, when Case Institute and Western Reserve campuses were federated. He retired in 1999 after 37 years of teaching and continues to research and publish in the field of physics. Bill Fickinger completed his doctorate at Yale, working on a hydrogen bubble chamber experiment at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Fickinger also worked on similar experiments at Brookhaven, the University of Kentucky, the Center for Nuclear Studies at Saclay in Paris, and at Vanderbilt University. Fickinger along with Keith Robinson were supported by the National Science Foundation, completing a variety of bubble chamber and counter experiments at Brookhaven and Argonne labs. These experiments contributed to the data base of particle properties which led eventually to the quark model for mesons and baryons. In 1994, Fickinger was appointed Director of Undergraduate Studies and enjoyed helping to reorganize the large introductory courses for engineers and pre-med students, as well as the establishment of several new physics-related majors and the senior honors program.

New collection in Digital Case: The Islamic Republic of Iran: Multidisciplinary Analyses of its theocracy, nationalism, and assertion of Power. The Conference examined from a number of academic disciplinary angles the domestic and foreign policies of the current Iranian Republic, especially as these policies reflect attitudes and ideas of the "other", whether internal or external. Papers represented disciplines such as ethnic studies, history, political science, religious studies and sociology.

A new collection is now available in Digital Case of 46 open reel and one tape recording of WRUW-FM's radio program "Gay Waves". The program covered news and events effecting the gay rights movement. The collection included programs from 1985-1989.

The Charles F. Brush, Sr. Papers consist of correspondence, laboratory notes, patent information, litigation records, financial material, newspaper clippings, company records, scientific articles, biographical information, photographs, audio recordings, and artifacts pertaining to the life and work of this accomplished Cleveland scientist, inventor, businessman and philanthropist most famous for his invention of the arc lamp.

A new collection in Digital Case called 'Off the Shelf', a series of podcast interviews of Case Western Reserve University faculty authors, hosted by Kelvin Smith librarian, William Claspy. Check back for more podcasts as they are released.
