How to Apply to P&G
P&G is a freshman friendly company who hires scientists (biology/chemistry/biochem) for R&D internships and full-time positions. We are more focused on interns this year, so we’d like to invite any interested students in your departments to learn more and apply. Please see the note below and the attached files for details.
* We are a ‘freshman friendly’ company who has internship openings for younger students
* Please take the assessments seriously as passing those are requirements for interviewing
* If your major isn’t listed on our one-pager, then the student can do a search online to see if any openings exist for your background
Please see the attached documents for more information.
Thanks for your interest and good luck!

Lehigh University Open House on October 30
The Chemistry Department at Lehigh University is accepting graduate applications for the Fall 2011 academic year. The Chemistry graduate program offers cutting edge, multidisciplinary research opportunities for students in a supportive, small program atmosphere. We offer a competitive stipend ($25,000/year) and full tuition waiver ($13,000/year). We have research opportunities in the traditional areas of chemistry in addition to specializations in surface science, reaction mechanisms, inorganic clusters, materials, biophysical chemistry and nanoparticles. For more information about the PhD program in Chemistry, please click on this link. If you would like to speak to the graduate adviser about our program, please email Professor Rebecca Miller.
The Chemistry Department is participating in the annual College of Arts and Sciences Open House on Saturday, October 30, 2010. The event runs from 10 am – 1 pm with registration beginning at 9:15 am. This is a great opportunity to meet faculty and students in the Chemistry Department, tour the research labs and chat one-on-one with faculty in the department. In addition, all students attending the Open House will receive a graduate application fee waiver (worth $75). Students register for the Open House through this online link. If you can’t attend the Open House event, but would like to visit campus and meet with Chemistry Department faculty at another time, please email Professor Miller.
PhD connect
Hello, and welcome to a new school year:
Two years ago, my son was a college senior wanting to get a PhD in a STEM discipline. His only good resource for deciding where to apply was his professors – just like you; Internet research, including GoogleTM, was a waste of effort. Because some of his friends did not have good mentoring, they were not as lucky in their searches. As a labor of love, we decided to start Phd-Connect.com®, to improve the process of PhD applicants finding the “best fit” professors.
PhD-Connect.com is a self-contained website that helps prospective PhD and EdD students search out and apply to affiliated graduate schools in the United States. Applicants can drill down their searches to find professors with similar research goals, and then apply to the programs at their universities with one standardized application, plus a short supplement specific to the universities they are applying to. Normal application and processing fees still apply when applicants submit; in addition, professors only have to write one recommendation per applicant, and it is entered online.
For each professor, we have created a mini-CV, including Research philosophy, some current projects, publications, and keywords. We espouse that the Professor – Student interaction is the most important link in PhD Graduate Education. We represent almost 4,000 professors nationally, in most disciplines.
Our website represents a stress-free initiative to save significant time in the application process; for a student who applies to as little as five schools through PhD-Connect.com, he / she can save over forty hours of effort.
Please review our applicant information start page:
www.phd-connect.com/applicantinformation.aspx
It would be much appreciated if you could pass this information to the other faculty-members in your department / program so that they can provide it to interested PhD prospectives in the classes of 2009, 2010 and 2011. We do not want to be presented as an endorsed service (we will earn that over time), but rather as an additional resource that students can utilize should they want to search for and apply to graduate schools, particularly when looking for PhDs.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at rick@phd-connect.com. We look forward to working with you and your department members in the future.
Thank you and best regards,
Rick Friedman
President

CMU's Bridging Reseach Communities Confrence
Dear Colleague:
We are pleased to invite you and the members of your department to Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday, October 16, 2010 to attend the first Bridging Research Communities conference. Please pass the information in this message and the attached flyer on to students and other faculty in Chemistry and related departments. Also, please print and post the flyer.
The Bridging Research Communities conference provides a great opportunity to bring student and faculty researchers from our region together to present their latest scientific findings, exchange ideas, and foster collaborations. Participants can expect the following:
(1) Presentations from recent graduates highlighting career options available to students who obtain a Ph.D. in Chemistry;
(2) Tours of our departmental facilities as well as the campus and local environs;
(3) A poster session open to all undergraduates in which prizes will be awarded for the best posters in each area;
(4) Dinner and a tour of downtown Pittsburgh hosted by Carnegie Mellon University graduate students and faculty.
Additional information, including a complete schedule and a hyperlink to the registration website is attached.
Registration, lunch, and dinner is free for all participants. Travel funds will be available to offset the cost of the visit, particularly for those traveling more than three hours from Pittsburgh. Student participants who need overnight accommodations will stay at the homes of graduate students who have graciously offered to act as hosts for the weekend. A block of rooms at a nearby hotel has been reserved for faculty participants.
We hope you and other members of your Department will be able to participate! Please visit www.chem.cmu.edu to explore the research that is currently taking place at CMU and let us know if you would like to meet with any particular faculty members while attending the conference. We will make every effort to accommodate your requests.
For more information, please contact Professor Linda Peteanu at (412) 268-1327 or peteanu@andrew.cmu.edu.
