University of Akron's Department of Chemistry

Stipends are available for a 10 week summer program of undergraduate research in the areas of Analytical, Biochemistry, Inorganic, Organic, or Physical chemistry. General information about the department, faculty, and their research descriptions can be found on the web at

Requirements: Undergraduate standing, with preferably two years of chemistry. Preference will be given to chemistry majors, however outstanding candidates in any area of science or engineering are encouraged to apply. Applications are especially encourage from candidates at primarily undergraduate institutions and from students who are members of groups underrepresented in science and technology. Participants must be citizens or permanent legal residents of the U.S.

Stipend: Students receive $2000 for 10 weeks, beginning June 6,2011.

Summer Course in Biophysics at UNC:Chapel Hill

Are your undergraduate students looking for an interdisciplinary summer research opportunity? Consider the Biophysical Society Summer Course, a 12-week scholarship program that introduces undergraduate minority students, disadvantaged students and students with disabilities to the field of biophysics.* Hosted by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the program includes lectures, seminars, lab work, team-building activities, and field trips.

The Course is designed to reflect a graduate-level research program. Upon successful completion of the Course, students receive 3 course credits toward an undergraduate degree. All tuition and fees during the Course are covered, and participants receive a stipend for living expenses throughout the summer.

The 2011 Summer Course will be held May 17 - August 6, 2011. Applications are due March 1, 2011.

Undergraduate students with a strong quantitative background in basic or applied sciences are encouraged to apply. Need more information? REU in Polymer Science & Engineering at the University of Akron

We are pleased to announce that the NSF REU site for Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering at The University of Akron will again accept applications for the summer of 2011. This year’s stipend amount is $7,000. The deadline for applications is March 1, 2011. The attached brochure is primarily for undergraduate students who are currently sophomores or juniors, although we have had a few freshmen.
