SURFING WITH THE PROS AND GAME TWO

Today has definitely been the most exciting so far. After eating breakfast, we began the day with a great time of surfing. Going into the day, I was not sure if I would try surfing because I thought the water would be too cold. Yet, upon arriving at the beach and seeing the waves, I was determined to give it a try.

When we got there and everyone was dressed, one of the surfing instructors brought us in for a quick stretch. Then he showed us how to lie on the board and get into a stance once a wave approached. It looked pretty easy while we were doing it on the sand, but once we hit the water, it was much more difficult. They split us into groups of five to go into the water. I was brave enough to go in with the first group. Each of us had a guide with us in the water showing us how to get the technique better. Luckily my guide spoke pretty good English! This was awesome because he could just tell me what I was doing wrong and I could try to change it. When we began, I must have fell ten straight times when the waves hit me. The surfing was a great first time experience and I would definitely do again.

We just played one of the craziest games in the history of CWRU! The game must have taken about three hours. There were more fouls called on us than in any game that I have ever participated in. We began the game with eleven players and ended the game with four. All of the other players fouled out of the game with the exception of Mason who received a deep gash in his head from an elbow of one of the competitors. What a great way for him to spend his birthday! We played well in the first half of the game. We shot the ball really well from the three-point line and we were able to penetrate almost at will. I think we finished the half up by about fifteen points.
In the second half, we were called for a foul almost every play unless the other team made a basket. I think the referee told me not to even blow my breath at anyone on the other team. I am not exactly sure though because his English was not so good. I felt like there was going to be a riot throughout the game with all of their players and coaches screaming at us, and even cursing at me in English! I guess they did know a few words in English. After they screamed at the referees a few more times, the referees really reminded us that we were American. Thus, nearly our whole team fouled out of the game.

Overall, it was a fun experience and we played well. I am still not sure who won the game because there was not scoreboard or shot clock in the gym. Hopefully the remaining days will be a bit more peaceful than this one.
