OFF TO A HISTORIC CITY ON THE OCEAN

Last night after the game we finished up in Sao Jose dos Campos dancing to disco techno and enjoying different varieties of pizza into the wee hours of the morning. The ice cream pizza was my favorite. In the club, I spent most of the time dancing and the rest laughing at my teammates trying to dance along with Brazilian renditions of hip hop. We had a great time.

Today started off slow considering we had to wake up early after a fun night of dancing to pack and move on to a new city. We took a long four hour bus ride to the city of Paraty. It was well worth the drive because the city was beautiful. Upon arriving we ate at a restaurant where we filled ourselves with an array of Brazilian meats, Klink’s [David] favorite. Next we checked in at our hotel [Pousada Corsario]. The hotel was more of a resort. It was by far the best hotel we’ve stayed in on the trip. It was covered by tall palm trees and different plants and animals. The hotel was complete with a pool, basketball courts, a swimming pool, and each room came with a hammock.

After settling in and relaxing on the hammock we took a guided tour of Paraty. The culture here is amazing. The people are always smiling and are very welcoming; probably because they are so amazed at seeing someone as tall as Rob [Skuski]. We learned of the history of Paraty, and visited many historic landmarks. We even stopped by the Prince´s house.

A group of students performed a dance called Capoeira for us. Capoeria is a dance but also a form of fighting. It seemed like it took a lot of flexibility to perform the movements. After finishing the guided tour we had some time to explore the city on our own. We went shopping and enjoyed the best ice cream in Paraty. Many people wanted to take pictures with us which was a new experience that I wouldn’t mind getting use to. I felt like I was a star on the cover of GQ, or Ebony’s man of the month. I can’t wait to see what surprises the nightlife will hold for us.
