Trip To California Full Of Firsts...
By Beth Andrasik - Freshman Guard - Sagamore Hills, Ohio
This trip [Surf City Classic - Orange County, CA] has been a trip of firsts for me. My first flight, my first time in California, my first time touching the Pacific Ocean (cold, don't try it), my first time eating spaghetti with a spoon, and my first kiss...oh wait...wrong story.
The flight was five hours sitting between the window
to my right with a great view of clouds and to the left my snoring teammate, Austin [Howell]. After safely landing in beautiful yet smoggy LA full of palm trees, we were able to see the Santa Ana Mountains (aka the "Foothills" of San Diego).
Last night [Dec. 28], we went to the Fun Zone where we were able to bust out some moves on the DDR before going to the beach. We played on the swings and climbed a rope tower which is where we decided we should never join an acrobatic team. We were even able to write our names in the sand before the ocean attacked us.
Today [Dec. 29] we went to Hollywood Blvd. where you will be able to find our stars shortly. There were many stores to stop in and many famous signatures to look at. It was interesting to see the hand and footprints of the stars throughout the years. After leaving the Chinese Theater, we took a stroll up Sunset Blvd. and then went on over to Rodeo Drive. It was impressive to see chandeliers used as street lights. After totaling everything in our possession, we came to the sad conclusion that we might be able to afford a sock from the expensive stores located here.
On the way back to the hotel, we passed the Aquatic Museum where you can find many interesting things like... fish and other things like...sharks as James, our informative bus driver, thoughtfully pointed out. We stopped at Coldstone (the highlight of the night!) and enjoyed each others company as we shared absolutely hilarious stories! I don't think I have ever laughed so hard in my life!
I cannot wait to see what else happens on this amazing trip! It is looking very promising with the possibilities of a Clippers game and Disney Land! Many wonderful memories are sure to follow.
