A Roundball Report From Florida...
By Kevin Herring – Freshman Guard – Blacklick, Ohio
As a freshman, this experience [winter break trip to Florida for the Tampa Bay Shootout] has been more than great and it is exciting to know that this is only my first year and I have three more years left of this. Just to be here in warm Florida instead of back in cold Cleveland is one of the best things about the trip. It is always nice to get finished with a game or practice and be able to walk right outside into perfect weather, because win or lose, it just makes you feel better.

It has also been nice to be able to compete against teams that we usually would not be able to play. I have had fun just hanging out with the team in good weather and playing basketball. Although we were not as successful as we wanted to be, we fought extremely hard. The night before one of our games all but six of us were sick with food poisoning, which made it an extremely long night. Even with this adversity we still came together and played a good game and only lost by a buzzer beater. With this challenge we learned that our team is actually a really good team because we can play with odds against us, and if nothing else it was a moral victory.
It has been a great experience to hangout on the beach, go swimming in the ocean 40 yards away from dolphins, and bring in the New Year literally on the beach. I feel fortunate to be able to have these opportunities and I appreciate them a lot. Although all these things are great here in Florida, I still look forward to coming back home and playing in front of our great fans. Go Case!
