By Freshmen Ethan Kleinbaum (Rutherford, NJ-pictured on left) and Brian Link (Lititz, PA-pictured on right)

Wednesday...
Another grey, rainy morning in Cleveland, and the track and field teams is up early to leave for Florida. Twenty or so made the early morning trek to Pittsburgh to get a flight to Orlando while Coach Rubin and Kamalsky and Obi headed for Miami.....

Upon arrival the team was greeted with an unfamiliar bright sun, vibrant colors, and warmth. After a short bus ride to the beautiful Quality Inn plaza the team scoped out the local chain restraints and mini puts along International Drive. Hungry, many members of the distance team headed to the nearest Olive Garden to feast on roughly 100 bread sticks and various of the fine restraints dishes. Tired and full they retired to their AIR CONDITIONED rooms.

Thursday...
The throwers were up early today to head to Disney’s Wide World of Sport. They had a long, but good day of competition. Distance runners remain at the hotel to rest for the evenings events partook in some traditional Florida pool lounging accompanied by homework. The hotel manager Jose made this observation, “You guys are the first people I ever saw doing homework at this hotel… That’s a huge cell phone (referring to my graphing calculator).” In the evening the distance team switched positions with the throwers to begin the evening’s events. Some highlights from the night of action include, but are not limited to, Esther Erb, Andrea Fishione, and the beautiful Leanne Austin sweeping the college women’s 10K. Junior Dominic “the Dominator” Smith also destroyed the Canada’s junior world qualifier from Nova Scotia in the 3K steeple chase. Rounding off the nights fireworks (provide Walt Disney World Inc.) was the Beast from the East (coast = New Jersey) Ethan Kleinbaum who won the 10K by out dueling a runner from Hope College (he didn’t have a hope.

(Good) Friday...
While riding to the meet today the team was greeted with a “I LOVE U JESUS” message written in smoke in the clear, blue, Florida sky. The weather today was a comfortable 75 with a slight wind out of the south. Highlights from today’s competition were freshman Brian “I love Lititz” Link destroying the slow, slow heat of the men’s 800m, Dominic Smith and Tyler (JT$) Youngquist dueled it out in the 1500m finishing less than a second apart placing 3rd and 4th respectively, and Ester Erb winning the women’s 1500m. In last collegiate race of the evening, Kurt “White (now pink) Flash” Gilbert dominated leg of the Sprint Medley Relay running his first 200 m dash of the season. Both men’s and women’s SMR’s finished in a solid third. By dumb luck, the Cleveland Indians were playing at the Wide World of Sport, and Case cross country alumni, All-American, and Hall of Fame runner Doug Leary was at the game, and stopped by the meet to show is support for his alma mater.
