Spartan Women's Teams Live Up To Halloween Hype...
By Senior Guard Anna Taylor (Westerville, OH)
This past Friday our team left our normal practice gear for something a little more festive. It is not every day that you end up with Minnie Mouse at your practices, but on October 31, we celebrated Halloween in style on our team. We headed to Adelbert Gym for practice…Halloween Costume practice."

Everyone still wore their normal athletic attire over to the gym, keeping the anticipation of what their costume was going to be right up until practice began.
The team ended up doing an absolutely phenomenal job getting in touch with their childhood trick – or – treating side. Everyone from Tigger to Mario and Luigi ended up making an appearance at our practice."

Angel Rice pulled off a toddler sized Tigger costume, while the freshmen formed a giant super-hero pack. Each superhero definitely reflected their own personal style and personality, from Chelsea Peck sporting a nice grill on her teeth (although I am unsure what super power that had, it definitely added intimidation) to Erin Hollinger’s superior ability to fly through the air, with Kate Clancy, Jodi Lyons, and Sarah Milligan rounding out the super group and Sydney Berry showing that super heroes don’t always need a special costume."

The freshmen superheroes, however, had some competition in the best costume category. Mario and Luigi (Caitlin Henry and Ashleigh Tondo) brought a lot of laughs and Austin Howell brought her southern flare into the mix as a Cowgirl. Kristyn Atkins took it old school with 80’s attire and Coach Reimer even joined in on the fun dressing up as the Halloween favorite, candy corn."

Julia Gorski and I busted out the hockey sticks and bandana’s to transform into the Bash Brothers from the Mighty Ducks (quack, quack, quack)."

We were the instigators of this whole ordeal and thus were entrusted to come up with the winner of the best costume….and drum roll please……the winner (heard here first) was the one, the only, Minnie Mouse!!! Although Beth Andrasik faced some tough opposition, her outfit definitely outshined the rest."

As much as we would have been happy to stay in costume all practice, I can not imagine that running around in Mario and Luigi’s awesome pants or Minnie’s dress would really have been that conducive to playing our intimidating ‘D’ on the court."

We have been having an amazing first few weeks of practice and Halloween practice added to the great team chemistry we already have. For the beginning of practice Friday, we started it off with a pure communication drill to get everyone talking and on the same page.
Our team never ceases to amaze me at how well everyone works together and how we continue to improve every time we step on the court for practice. Even after being only 18 practices in, I can not wait to see what we do this season and we can not wait to get everything started with our first game on November 21!
