Is management for me?

While sitting in statics class, an interesting question slipped my mind. Why am I pushing myself so hard to major in both business management and computer engineering? I have ended up with twice the workload and seemingly twice the stress. Events such as today's networking session confirm my decision to keep doing what I am doing.

Taking business and engineering classes simultaneously allows me to diversify. After spending 3 hours crunching numbers trying to solve a difficult physics problem I get to switch gears and become more extroverted expressing my opinions on business, ethics, and career preparation. I am still in the process of targeting exactly what I want to do with my life.

I have come to the realization that to pursue a possible career, the many different procedures discussed in Management 250 are vital to my success. I am seeking a management degree for the purpose of gaining knowledge as to how I am to communicate with others in the business world. When I graduate and am working for some engineering firm, I want to possess the knowledge that would allow me to speak easily and effectively with fellow employees who work in other departments. To get to the place I dream about, I have to first learn the basics. Today's networking session allowed me to experience something I had never done before. I never had the courage to reach out to other people for the purpose of creating business contacts. Hopefully by continuing to improve these skills I can build a larger network that may give me some leads to my first job or internship.

I am glad to read that you are using your experiences in MGMT250 to help you discover what career path(s) you hope to pursue. Also, I am certain that your "diversification" will help distinguish you when it comes time to find jobs.
