What does it take to change a city?

What does it take to change a city? The 2010 programs for Regionally Speaking will focus on the partnership between CWRU's Social Justice Alliance and Institute (SJA/I) with the City of East Cleveland.

The City of East Cleveland received $2.2 million in federal funds from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. Further funds are expected to come through the new Cuyahoga County Land Reutilization Corporation.

These funds are only the first step for economic redevelopment to happen. The residents of East Cleveland and the surrounding community must be involved in the redevelopment.

SJA/I approach is two-pronged. First, the organization seeks to promote the involvement of CWRU faculty and students through East-Cleveland based initiatives centered on education, health, and dental medicine. Second, SJA/I seeks to bring other nonprofit organizations, funders, and academic institutions into the partnership.
